Roger Smith to Help Tryon Riding & Hunt Club

WELLINGTON, Fla., June 6--Roger and Jennifer Smith, active participants in equestrian activities, report that they have acquired 96 acres in Polk County, North Carolina for use as a possible equestrian center to be operated by the Tryon Riding and Hunt Club.

The Smiths will apply for the necessary county approvals for the property that was acquired on Friday, May 30, 2008.

"Upon successful completion of that approval process, it will be offered to the Tryon Riding and Hunt Club for operation as an equestrian center," the Smiths said in a statement.

The Tryon Riding and Hunt Club offers horse shows, a dog show and a steeplechase from April through October.

"This endeavor is in no way affiliated with our involvement in Wellington Equestrian Partners (WEP) or Equestrian Sport Productions (ESP)," the statement said.

The Smiths own homes in Tryon and Wellington, Florida.

They were among the founding partners of WEP that acquired the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington in 2007 and operates horse shows including the Winter Equestrian Festival through its ESP management company.
